Goji Berry (Lycium barbarum) – Liner
USDA Zones: 5–9
The Goji Berry, also known as wolfberry, is a hardy, nutrient-rich shrub that produces an abundance of bright red, antioxidant-packed berries. Easy to grow and highly adaptable, Goji plants are perfect for home gardens, edible landscapes, or container growing. Starting from a liner, Goji Berries will mature into a compact shrub 6–10 feet tall and wide, with arching branches and small purple flowers in spring, followed by heavy fruiting in summer.
Soil Requirements:
Goji Berries thrive in well-drained, sandy or loamy soils. They prefer a neutral to slightly alkaline soil pH (6.8–8.1). Avoid heavy clay soils unless amended for good drainage, as waterlogged roots can lead to poor growth and disease.
Watering Needs:
Water deeply but infrequently. Goji Berry plants are drought-tolerant once established, but regular watering during dry spells and fruiting seasons will maximize berry production. Allow the soil to dry slightly between watering to prevent root rot.
Growth & Care:
Goji Berries grow best in full sun, needing at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to produce abundant flowers and fruit. Prune lightly each year to remove dead wood and maintain shape. These plants are self-fertile, meaning you only need one for berries, but more plants can increase yield.
Quick Highlights:
Height & Spread: 6–10 feet tall, can be pruned smaller
Fruiting: Bright red berries harvestable in summer and early fall
Sun: Full sun for best growth and fruiting
Maintenance: Low-maintenance; occasional pruning recommended
